DAY IN THE DIRT

After four months of planning, "Drop In The Park" was finally coming together. A full-on skating, rock-n-roll, all day extravaganza for free at Gas Works Park in Seattle, Washington. Headlining bands were Pearl Jam and Seaweed, while other attractions included a custom built half pipe, MTV coverage, Rock The Vote, and pro marijuana activists. The mini Woodstock was a great event for a Volcom road trip. A time to rock, rage and ride with bros and tap into some good energy. A road trip like this was special in that it couldn't be 100% planned, but more importantly lived. The actual trip lasted ten days and was so intense that no picture or story will ever completely recreate the vibe that we had experienced.“Our crew consisted of a bunch of "good for nothing no accounts" including Steve Graham, Dave Seone, Mike Parillo, Troy Eckert, Kyle Meza, Steve McNutt, Rob Defoe, Ryan Immegart, Tucker Hall, Clint Moncata and myself R. wool-air. Also included was Jamie Jackson, who we had to pick up on the 5 fwy near Sacramento and Chet Thomas, who would meet us at the airport in Seattle.”VOLCOM (XFACTO), 1992

READING FESTIVAL

Reading Festival is an annual music festival that takes place in Reading, EnglandREADING, 1993

NIRVANA’S MTV UNPLUGGED

In the 90s, people lucky enough to score tickets to the taping thought we knew what to expect as we were escorted into the Sony Studio just north of Times Square. We knew Cobain didn’t seem all that happy being a rock star and that Nirvana was essentially acquiescing to industry dictates by taping one of these shows. By the fall of 1993, Unplugged wasn’t simply one of MTV’s biggest franchises but practically part of every act’s marketing plan. Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, LL Cool J, Rod Stewart, Neil Young, and Aerosmith, among many, had already taped Unplugged episodes to promote new records. So most of us also assumed an unamplified Nirvana set would include songs from In Utero, which had dropped a little more than a month before.SONY STUDIOS, 1993

LIMELIGHT NEW YORK

The Limelight opened in 1983 on the site of a deconsecrated Episcopal church, immediately ascribing it a dark credibility. Andy Warhol hosted parties there, and over the years, performers who included Prince, Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, Funkmaster Flex, Mary J. Blige, and Sean “Puffy” Combs appeared inside its dimly lit confines.Set: Oceans, Even Flow, Why Go, Jeremy, Suggestion/Deep, Alive, Black, State of Love and Trust, Once, Porch
Enc: Leash, Rockin' in the Free World, I've Got a Feeling, Release
notes: Ed drums briefly before 'Leash.' Typically an opening song, 'Release,' closes this show in an unusual fashion.

(SAMPLE)The door opens to COLLEEN and CLAUDIA coming into the room with a man named LOUIS as music plays in the background.VICTORIA
Hi!
CLAUDIA
Vee, it’s just wonderful. Your apartment.
Everyone goes to sit down around the apartment and greet each other. CLAUDIA sits on a white couch drinking a beer with LOUIS as COLLEEN sits on the floor, marker in hand, looking at a map. VICTORIA is laying on the floor with a pillow behind her head facing COLLEEN.VICTORIA
Colleen-y? What are you doing?
COLLEEN (satirically)
Trying to figure out where the fucking post office is so I can mail everybody a postcard.
VICTORIA
What are you gonna do while you’re here on your trip?
COLLEEN
I’m going to go shopping, going to see everything I studied in history, and find a beautiful French man.
COLLEEN puckers her lips at VICTORIA.CLAUDIA and LOUIS have a discussion with a book separating them on the couch.CLAUDIA (waving hands in a circle)
And where is the Moroccan part of Paris?
Back to VICTORIA, she lies watching people talk. CRAIG walks over and sits next to her.LOUIS (to VICTORIA)
So have you been seeing many tourist attractions here, or what have you been doing?
VICTORIA
What have I been doing? I’ve been doing a lot of stuff but, sometimes I find it very difficult to step out the door before 3 o’clock in the afternoon. So, by the time we step out, which is 3 and have like, a cup of coffee, and a croissant of course, it’s 4 o’clock. Then I want to go to a museum and the fucking museum is closed at 5 o’clock.
VICTORIA laughs hysterically as everyone else does.VICTORIA
So, we never actually make it to the museums.
(pointing at COLLEEN)
But um, then Colleen’s here and she’s like, busy looking at all these like, books. All these thousand-and-one places that she’s gonna go.
COLLEEN
Well, I’m trying to tell you about this fucking English language book store, which you’ve been bitching about since I got here.
(she points to the map)
Right here.
VICTORIA
Well–
COLLEEN
An English speaking bookstore. English language, and there’s seven fucking of them.
VICTORIA
All the places that she’s gonna go to, I don’t really-
COLLEEN
Well, I’m definitely going to Jim Morrissons grave, alright? His grave.
